ELLSWORTH — The state Board of Dental Practice has disciplined Ellsworth dentist Dr. Marc Horowitz for violating standards of care for two of his patients between 2023 and 2024. It was the fifth disciplinary action against Horowitz’s license in 23 years.

ELLSWORTH — Increases to building permit fees may be coming as soon as May 19 if the City Council approves proposed amendments to the city’s ordinance. Code Enforcement Officer Robert Grant said the fees the city charges for building permits have not been updated in at least 20 years. ELLSWORTH — The School Department is warning parents of a dangerous TikTok trend circulating social media platforms that encourages sticking metal objects in the USB ports of Chromebooks or computers. “This behavior is being promoted online and is extremely dangerous,” wrote IT Director Katie Hollenback in a letter to parents on May 7. “It can cause electrical short circuits, spark fires, severely damage the devices, and potentially result in physical harm.
Volunteers clean up Card Brook

ELLSWORTH — Around 45 volunteers spent Saturday morning fishing out cans, shopping bags and other trash that had collected in and around Card Brook for the city’s annual Card Brook cleanup day. “In that particular area of High Street, with all of the businesses nearby, there is a high amount of trash that blows into the brook and there is stormwater runoff which flows into the brook and pollutes the water,” said Assistant City Planner Brittany Merrill, who helped organize the event.
