IKEA Dallas – University Park will be a small-format, two-story store, the company announced on its website. But small is a relative term — for IKEA, that means a 63,000 square-foot space that offers 3,200 articles and food.

Traffic around the Ashley Priddy Memorial Fountain near the intersection of Armstrong Avenue, Oak Lawn Avenue, Lakeside Drive, and Preston Road will be impacted by storm water main repair work beginning on Thursday, April 10. The town of Highland Park will temporarily close and shift lanes to facilitate the construction, which is expected to continue through the end of June, weather permitting. While the kids get a summer holiday from school, the city of University Park plans to get to work maintaining and improving city streets. The University Park City Council approved contracts for asphalt replacement during an April 1 meeting. The summertime work will occur on slightly more than 12 miles of city streets.

In her daily life, Highland Park High School graduate Sara “Happy” Waterman deals with the challenges caused by Down Syndrome. But on a horse, she’s a champion. Happy has won seven belt buckles for being the top rider in her division at the Chisholm Challenge, a horse show for equestrians with disabilities held annually in Fort Worth. Happy’s riding skills have also earned her about 30 medals in the Special Olympics Equestrian Games.

Family-fun destination Fritz’s Adventure will open its second location at Grandscape in The Colony on April 2. The adventure park features more than 100,000 square feet of explorable space, including an indoor and outdoor zip line course with a range of difficulty levels, ropes courses, and a climbable city wall.
