The Hickory Police Department is investigating a shooting at a gas station on U.S. Highway 321. The shooting happened late Tuesday night at the RaceWay gas station located at 1230 U.S. Highway 321 NW, the Hickory Police Department said. No arrests have been announced in the case. The police department has not released any additional information about the shooting as of 9:15 a.m. Hickory police said additional information will be release when available.

A Newton man died in a single-vehicle crash along N.C. Highway 127 in Catawba County on Sunday. Joel Parks Harris, 70, died after being taken from the scene to an area hospital, N.C. State Highway Patrol Trooper Christopher Casey said in a news release. During a graduation ceremony Friday, a Lenoir-Rhyne University student spoke of a traumatic car crash he was in during spring break two years ago. “I broke my wrist and every bone in my face. I was in a coma for seven days,” Daniel Lucio Dominguez said. “My return to complete brain function and discharge four days later was a miracle. I thank my advisor, the faculty and the disability services office for their academic support.
