I am back from a one-month, nine-city book tour for The Last American Road Trip — and I’m still hungry for questions! Welcome to the return of the monthly Q & A. I am standing on the Devil’s Promenade, waiting to see the light. Folks have been flocking to this rural road since the early 20th century, when the apparition was first publicized. As fellow St. Louisan T.S. Eliot said, “April is the cruelest month.” But April is also the coolest month: The Last American Road Trip is a national bestseller! This happened for one reason: you! Welcome to another episode of the Willoughby Hills podcast! On today’s episode, I welcome back to the show author Sarah Kendzior. Sarah last joined me on this podcast in August, 2020, when we were both still quarantined at home to avoid the pandemic. Despite the threats from COVID though, the summer of 2020 was also a time of great promise, where Americans turned out in vast numbers to protest racial injustice after the police murder of George Floyd. It’s now five years later.
