    I was more than charmed by the students, I admit. Their temperaments were brighter than my own, their thoughts more surprising. It was a tiny, unrepresentative group, but they didn’t resemble “young people” as they are portrayed in popular culture. When I asked them whether concern about the environment or other risks was likely to affect their decisions about having families, they looked at me as if I were a pitiable doomer—no, not really.

    Cheyanne Rider is a force, not so much to be reckoned with, but to have a real conversation. Though perhaps when the gavel is in her hand when she sits as chair for a Civil Discourse debate, her power is a bit more noticeable. Rider holds many titles. She is a dual-enrolled student with LBCC and Oregon State. Rider serves as a student leader with Civil Discourse and a student advocate for LB’s Cornerstone Program.

    School finally started on February 12 for The Periwinkle Child Development Center and they are welcoming everyone in an Open House on February 13. Date and time: February 13, from 4:00-5:30Who can attend: It is open to the public. Everyone from the community is invited to attend. Event details: There will be a ribbon cutting, and people will be invited to take a tour of the newly renovated building. Attendees can also participate in a scavenger hunt and an activity on display in the center.
