SUSI offers funding to eligible full and part-time students in approved courses at PLC, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Ireland and, in some cases, to students studying in the UK or EU. All types of students, from school leavers to mature students returning to education, can apply for funding. Importantly, students do not need to have received their Leaving Cert results or accepted a college course to apply.

This year’s Leaving Certificate agricultural science exam is scheduled for Monday, 20 June. As one of the last papers in the exam, students will be counting down to summer and exam freedom. However, the declining number of students sitting the exam and studying the subject is felt amongst teachers and industry members, and rightly so. Fewer students studying the subject will result in fewer going on to select an agri-related degree at third level.

ATU and Tuam-based business Cormac Tagging have launched a new Agri-Business Management Scholarship in the Mountbellew campus. The new €3,000 scholarship opportunity for the academic year 2025/26 is designed to support and retain students entering the agri-business management course.

The month of June brings the dreaded exam season for parents and students. On Wednesday, 4 June, across Ireland, 61,726 students sat down to tackle their first exam paper. Many of us remember the pressure and stress that this two-week period brings. It is another few months until the results day and CAO places are announced. Two years of studying, practising exam papers and preparations have all led to what is essentially a memory test known as the ‘points race’.
