Lidl Ireland has announced the opening date of its new €7 million Claregalway store, which will bring the retailer’s footprint to 11 in Galway, creating 30 new jobs for the area. The new store will open its doors on Thursday 22 May at 8am, with local ladies’ Gaelic football player and Lidl ambassador Nicola Ward on hand to cut the ribbon.

Marks & Spencer today informed customers that some of their data was taken in the ongoing cyber-attack facing the retailer. The UK-based retailer, which also has a significant Irish footprint, has seen a cyber-attack impact online sales functions, contactless pay and food availability for three weeks. Today, M&S provided an update on social media, following an email to customers informing them that some of their data had been taken.

Applegreen Ireland is to open the first Taco Bell Mexican-inspired restaurant in Ireland as part of a new partnership with the US-based company. The fuel and convenience retailer will open its first Taco Bell this summer, with plans to subsequently open more across the country over the next five years. This is the latest from Applegreen's expansion, after it announced a partnership with US company Chick-Fil-A and Applegreen Northern Ireland in January.

The board of Tirlán is reportedly being urged to seek expert advice on how to dispose of its stake in Glanbia, The Irish Times reported today. Tirlán – which owns dairy brands such as Avonmore and Kilmeaden – has lost up to €500 million on the value of its holding due to a slump in Glanbia’s share price. Currently, the group is in the process of spinning out 15 million Glanbia shares to members at reduced value, an issue that has generated some tension.
