I feel compelled to write, as my husband, Harvey Perry, and I were shocked to read the front-page article in The Westerly Sun (“Washington Trust, DOJ agree to $9M settlement,” Sept. 28) about how the Washington Trust Company reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the bank redlining underbanked communities in its market area. Considering the history of the bank’s service to the communities in its market area, I would have thought this would never happen.
