Vincent Ialenti, who leads the Department of Energy’s consent-based siting program, announced his resignation from the DOE in a post on his LinkedIn profile. Ialenti worked in the DOE’s Office of Spent Fuel and High-Level Waste Disposition and was the federal manager of the agency’s Consent-Based Siting Consortia. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has worked for the agency since August 2022. During his time with the DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy, Ialenti served in multiple capacities.

In a Lifecycle report released every three years, the Department of Energy said costs to fully complete the nation’s biggest and most expensive nuclear cleanup in Washington State will be between $364 billion and $589.4 billion. The Hanford Lifecycle Scope, Schedule, and Cost Report, released April 15, also estimated that cleanup could not be complete until fiscal 2086, with long-term stewardship at the Hanford nuclear legacy site stretching until 2100.
