Here is what I’ve learned. If you walk through the forest not looking for fungi, you probably won’t see them. You won’t see their tiny spores swirling through the air, searching for a friendly place to land, a place to grow—even though their spores outnumber every other living particle in the air.

Moore Avenue is a small but busy street in North Toronto that usually has a steady line of cars moving in both directions. But for the second time in less than a year, the road has been narrowed to a single lane at the crosswalk where pedestrians and cyclists leave the Mount Pleasant Cemetery and begin their descent into the Mud Creek ravine. In April, pylons and caution tape festooned what had become a major drop in the pavement that threatened to bottom out cars.

Three officers, all retired from the Fort Worth Police Department, recently gave students lessons in personal safety at a self-defense class sponsored by TCU Campus Recreation & Wellness Promotion. About 15 students attended the hour-long session. “The purpose of this class is to teach you how to get your attacker off of you so that you can run away,” Sgt.

As flu season begins, the free flu shot clinic made flu shots more accessible to students and was also a learning opportunity for many of TCU’s nursing students. This clinic in the TCU Recreation Center was open to students, faculty and staff on campus by the TCU Harris College of Nursing. On the side closest to the entrance of the basketball court, two students studying to be nurse practitioners were giving CPR training sessions to attendees.
