Many local beauty supply stores have aisles filled with products advertised to "lighten," "fade," or "brighten" your skin. Many of these products are safe to use, but some have been reported to have dangerous ingredients. Back in 2019, we found skin care products listing elevated levels of mercury on their labels for sale in some South Florida stores.

A ban on fluoride use in the local supply is on its way, and local water departments are working to adjust. In South Florida, where you live determines how your water is filtered and treated. The Miami-Dade County's Water and Sewer Department provides drinking water for about 2.3 million people. In Broward County, there are more than 20 city and private water utilities.

The REAL ID deadline is here, and starting Wednesday, U.S. travelers will need to have it if they plan to use a driver's license when flying domestically and want to avoid delays. Florida started issuing REAL IDs back in 2010, but many people were still rushing to update their IDs before the looming deadline. You will also need a REAL ID if you want to visit a military base or visit a secure federal facility.
