The case of the 39-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Likhona Fose, has been postponed to June 18 in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg. Mduduzi Mnisi is facing a murder charge after the 14-year-old girl’s mutilated body was discovered in bushes in Durban Deep. Fose had disappeared while playing with friends not far from her home in Braamfisherville last month.

Residents of Fordsburg in Johannesburg say they are struggling to keep warm in the extreme cold due to a massive power outage in the area. The entire community has been without electricity since Sunday night. Residents say they are still unsure as to how long the outage will last. Akhil Jaynath says the situation is unbearable, “We are experiencing some really troubled times, we do not have electricity for the past two days. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says the cold front that is currently sweeping through Gauteng is expected to pass on Wednesday. Residents have been advised to keep warm and be extra cautious when using heating devices to prevent fire incidents. The SAWS says localised flooding and snowfall is also expected in some areas, as a result of the cold front sweeping through several parts of the country.

Family, friends and colleagues of award-winning actor Presley Chweneyagae will gather at the State Theatre in Pretoria this morning to honour him at a memorial service. Chweneyagae passed away of natural causes last week, at his home in Pretoria. The 40-year-old was best known for his leading role in the award-winning 2005 film, Tsotsi. He starred in various films, including iNumber Number, Zama Zama and the recent telenovela, The River, where he was notorious for his hilarious role of Cobra.

Police say they are closing in on Bongani Mthimkulu, the remaining suspect of an alleged kidnapping syndicate that targeted young women at shopping malls in several provinces. Mthimkulu is the second suspect in Olorato Mongale’s murder case, that police are still searching for. The main suspect, Philangenkosi Makhanya, was killed during a shootout with police at Amanzimtoti in KwaZulu-Natal last week.
