India’s markets regulator has restricted settlement of equity derivative contracts to Tuesday and Thursday, a move aimed at curbing frequent changes by stock exchanges. The Securities and Exchange Board of India has mandated the National Stock Exchange of India, the country’s largest bourse, and rival BSE to choose between any of these two days for settlement of their equity products, including the weekly benchmark index options contract, according to a circular issued Monday.

(Bloomberg) -- India’s benchmark equity gauge headed for its biggest gain since early June, boosted by lenders and market heavyweight Reliance Industries. Most Read from BloombergThe NSE’s Nifty 50 index rose as much as 2.6% to 23,946.95, while the BSE Sensex rose over 2%. Friday’s gain helped the Nifty halt two straight weeks of losses. The rally was also aided by optimism that an alliance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party may win in the Maharashtra state election.
