Hopkins County Central made program history by sending two girls’ doubles teams to the state tennis tournament for the first time. However, they discovered the challenges of the seeding process at the state level on Tuesday. The team of Addison Rickard and Lilly Armour played well but lost to McCracken County’s Alexis Poore and Cassidy Parker 6-0, 6-0. The McCracken County pair is seeded as one of the top eight teams in the state.

The Madisonville-North Hopkins boys’ tennis teams went 0-3 on the first day of the KHSAA State Tournament on Tuesday in Lexington. The opening round for the guys was moved inside to the Lexington Tennis Center due to rain in the central Kentucky region. The region champion doubles team of Noah Mays and Justin Rodgers fell to the Henry Clay team of Max Hixson and Mason Johnson 6-2, 6-0.

Caldwell County had one entry in the boys and girls state tennis tournaments on Tuesday, and both came away with first-round losses. The boys’ doubles team of freshman Cade Rowland and senior Cason Littlejohn fell to Paducah Tilghman’s T.J. Duwe and Leyton Morris 6-0, 6-0. Also making the girls’ state tournament was sophomore Ella Johnson, who lost 6-0, 6-0 to Cooper’s Kayla Johnson, one of the top 16 seeded players in the state.

Faced with tough draws, Henderson County’s entries at the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament failed to advance past the first round on Tuesday. Region runner-up Jaxton Duncan dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Owensboro’s John Clay Ford. Duncan, a sophomore, was making his second state tourney trip. Jace Evans, who finished third at the region tourney, lost to Waggoner’s Daniel Yera 6-0, 6-12. It was the first state tourney appearance for the Colonel sophomore.
