An important concept grew during a Japanese trip visiting the courtyard of the Kennin Ji temple in Kyoto, contemplating the plan and its relationship to the site,  light changing of the day, vegetation through the screens, and shadows on the backdrop of surfaces. The relationships between outside and inside were a constant during design.

The Michigan Constitution  to initiate ballot measures to change or propose new laws. These citizen initiatives are made outside of the Legislature, enabling ordinary voters to create policy through the ballot. In 2018, two groups— “The One Fair Wage” and “Time to Care”— used ballot measures to propose two employment laws: the Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act (“IWOWA”), and the Earned Sick Time Act(“ESTA”).

On April 19, 2024, the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (“DOE”) issued its long-awaited and lengthy Final Title IX regulations (the “2024 Final Rule”). The 2024 Final Rule requires that all educational institutions that receive federal funds (“institutions” or “recipients”) that have knowledge of conduct that reasonably may constitute sex discrimination in their educational programs or activities must respond promptly and effectively to address that conduct.
