On a recent September morning, local photographer Will Bagby made his way along the Tuckahoe Creek Park boardwalk where he passed a small group of photographers looking for migrating warblers. Moments later, he was standing solo in the corner of the park when a Barred Owl swooped by and landed on a nearby limb. Bagby made a dozen or so images of the owl and then called his photographer friend Ed Dinep, who was with the warbler crowd, and told him about the owl.

RICHMOND, Va. -- On Monday, April 8, Richmonders flocked outside to places like the Science Museum of Virginia, where they gathered in large crowds to watch the midday solar eclipse known as the Great North American Eclipse. Others, like Jeff Saxman, a longtime Richmond fine art and commercial photographer, hit the road to photograph the total eclipse with a better view. Saxman and his two sons ended up at a park in Ohio, where he made the striking sequential image below.

In 1920s Portugal, there were over 400 canneries — now there are only 20 primarily because of climate change, lack of employees and a general lack of knowledge, among other things.

RICHMOND, Va. -- In one popular poster developed by Ryan Myers, you first notice the bold colors of the Galaxy Diner storefront in Carytown. The colors draw you in and, when you look closer, that’s when you notice a distinctly alien-looking customer making their order at the bar. That subtle joke is only one of many artistic modes that Myers operates in.
