    The days of seeing the current incarnation of The Grateful Dead at The Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, The Forum or Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre are over, but for SoCal Deadheads willing to make the journey, The Sphere in Las Vegas provides the mecca they seek. The last weekend of April, we had an opportunity to experience a Thursday through Saturday run of shows for Dead & Company’s second annual residency, dubbed “Dead Forever.” They return this weekend, and their last run will be May 15-17.

This past weekend, Deadheads from around the world heeded the beacon of remaining, original torchbearers Bob Weir (vocals/guitar) and Mickey Hart (drums/percussion), and cohorts John Mayer (vocals/guitar), Oteil Burbridge (bass), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Jay Lane (drums) for a the three-day cycle of shows at the extraordinary Sphere venue, in Las Vegas.

    Cabaret of Curiosities is a glorious celebration of eroticism delightfully coupled with the equally sensuous aesthetic of horror imagery. Mix in a great soundtrack and some very cheeky humor, and you’ve got a recipe for one hell of a show. The performances take place in a curtained-off section of a quaint cocktail lounge in North Hollywood, called Risky Business. As one enters the bar, the dark atmosphere and creative lighting signal that it is a place where misfits are welcome.
