Last week I wrote about displaying wisdom. True wisdom is characterized by peace. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. [18] Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. [James 3:17-18 NKJV] Today we see a “form” of wisdom that does not lead to peace. James talks about this kind of wisdom too, Where do wars and fights [come] from among you?

A great description for our current era comes from Arthur C. Brooks, a public policy scholar, who states that we live in a “culture of contempt.” It is a very apt term. Today, with the world wide web, we have more information at our fingertips than ever before, yet we see less wisdom displayed. Let us be honest, wisdom is fleeting in our world.

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world [to be] rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? [James 2:5 NKJV] At first glance one would think that James is writing against wealthy people. To some extent he is, but not for being rich, but for taking advantage of people to become rich. Having money is not a sin and being poor is not a sign of holiness.
