Another news media bloodbath this month. After accepting millions in public money, Bell Media announced that it is slashing 4,800 jobs at all levels — including hundreds of journalists, and selling 45 of 103 radio stations. The news was swiftly followed by Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge pointing out that the company was granted $40 million by the government under the Online Streaming Act to continue its operation.

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) — The Hershey Company on Thursday announced a new treat that brings a twist to their classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It’s the Reese’s Caramel Big Cup, which adds a layer of caramel to the peanut butter cup. Hershey says this is the first time this has ever been done with a big Reese’s peanut butter cup. Reese’s also makes TAKE5, which is a piece of chocolate with peanut butter, caramel, peanuts, and pretzel.

Researchers from the University of Toronto have created an intuitive robot camera designed to film “How-To” tutorial videos for YouTubers and video creators. Dubbed “Stargazer,” the interactive camera follows implicit and explicit cues from the person in front of the camera allowing creators who don’t have access to a film crew to create more dynamic videos than if they were just filming on a static camera.

All photographers know that a great photo opportunity is precious. But it is never worth coming to blows over — two families visiting Disney World did not get that memo. An insane incident occurred this week at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida when a fight broke out after one family asked another to move so that they could take a picture. The brawl happened on Monday afternoon in front of the 100th Anniversary sign which celebrates 100 years of The Walt Disney Company.

UPY has announced the winners of the 2023 contest, naming Kat Zhou Underwater Photographer of the Year for her wonderful capture of an Amazon river dolphin. As usual, there are many DPGers among the other category winners and runners-up, but it’s also fantastic to see new names among the winners.
