In the early days of fantasy football, rookie receivers were an afterthought, almost a joke. You'd ignore them for their first seasons, barely look at them for their follow-up seasons, then maybe consider them for Year 3 breakouts. That was the playbook, and almost everyone followed it. There were occasional exceptions. Randy Moss detonated with an amazing 1998 season. Anquan Boldin smashed in 2003, announcing his presence with 217 yards in the opener.

It's the end of June. The fantasy baseball season is almost halfway over. The days are long, but the seasons are short. Catchers are often a lesser consideration in fantasy baseball leagues that require just one starter, but we want a right answer at every position. So let's throw the backstops through the Shuffle Up car wash today and figure out how they rank for the rest of the season. Please roll up your windows, put your car in neutral.

It's no fun to watch the Colorado Rockies slide into irrelevance. The Rockies, as you know, have the worst record in baseball. They're 27th in runs scored. They also have the worst pitching by far, with a messy 5.54 ERA — over a run behind the next closest team, the Chicago White Sox. But it's the right time of the year to view the Rockies with an optimistic lens. Colorado has been a competitive 9-11 over its last 20 games, and a glorious home swing is upon us.

When we're scouting the player pools for the fresh fantasy football season, we're always looking for players who can improve or at least maintain a productive level of play. Normally, when we think of regression, it's a dirty word. But sometimes you can profit even when production regresses. Allow me to introduce you to the Regress and Win concept.

We're almost halfway through the fantasy baseball season and starting pitcher values are always critical to our success. So here's another Shuffle Up for you to audit. Pitchers are the sirens of fantasy baseball, forever teasing and misleading us. Most pitchers, even the best of them, are constantly tinkering with their approach, their arsenal, their mechanics. And of course, throwing a baseball is a very unnatural act, so you never know who's the next pitcher to need downtime — or a lost season.

Roman Anthony switching from 48 (Pablo Sandoval) to 19 (Fred Lynn) was a winning move.

This was a very enjoyable conversation and there's tons of actionable takeaways, especially for auction/salary cap players. I hope you enjoy it.
