This article examines the Turnbull Coalition government's changes to the Commonwealth school funding model, inherited from its Labor predecessor, made by amendments to the Australian Education Act 2013 (Cth) passed in the Senate in June 2017 in terms of McConnell's three dimensions of policy success. By so doing, the case demonstrates both the interplay of policy, process, and political success and the challenges of sustaining successful reform to Australia's complex school funding system.

Peter Dutton's reversal of the Coalition's policy of ending working from home shows not just poor policy preparation, but also little thought about presentation, no thought about explaining and complete political ineptitude in reinforcing the Coalition's image as an anti-public service party. It also shows that the Opposition Leader, whose brand is supposed to be providing strong leadership in contrast to "weak" Albanese, buckled at the first flying paper clip from the public service unions.

Proposals by the Albanese government that it might buy the financially stressed Rex Airline - which has $500 million of debt - if no private buyer can be found is reminiscent of the Chifley Labor government's failed attempt to nationalise the country's airlines and banks during the 1940s. Let's not forget the government has already provided $130 million in debt repayment and support to keep Rex's planes flying to its many regional destinations.
