    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Borough President Vito Fossella honored the “exceptional readers” of the borough’s elementary schools during the 2025 “Readers are Leaders” competition ceremony, held at the Joan and Alan Bernikow JCC in Seaview Wednesday night. Students from Staten Island public, private and parochial schools participated in the annual competition, which challenged them to read at least five books in five weeks and produce a report on their favorite book.

    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 23-year-old man suffered a stab wound following an attack in Eltingville Wednesday night. Police responded to a report of a stabbing incident around 9:20 p.m. at 3939 Richmond Ave., according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information. The South Shore YMCA is located at the address provided by police. Police vehicles could be seen parked outside the location and several officers could be seen standing outside the entranceway to the building.
