OVER 60,000 Murray cod and golden perch were stocked into the upper Macquarie River catchment this week. The enormous stocking effort was conducted by volunteer recreational anglers from the Central Acclimatisation Society (CAS) and the Bundi Fishing club to complement native fish stockings from previous years and also ensure native fish survival in the upper Macquarie River catchment.

RESEARCH from the University of Sunshine Coast reveals numbers of bull sharks are increasing, according to a report in the Cairns Post. The Queensland study that tagged more than 60 sharks and took genetic samples from nearly 300 bitten fish. In addition, data from the Queensland shark control program showing drum lines across Cairns caught 13 bull sharks in 2023-2024 compared to none in 2019-2022 reports the Cairns Post.

RECREATIONAL anglers in NSW who use National Parks are being urged to sign a petition aimed at removing lockouts and reinstating access to these public spaces. Numbers of locked gates have multiplied, while access to many fishing spots along coastal and inland Parks has been reduced over the past decade. Sign the petition and ensure NSW National Parks remain open to the public.
