Neal Schnoor, the president of Northern State University, has been announced as the priority candidate to be chancellor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Schnoor informed the Northern State campus community of the news via an email sent Tuesday, April 22. It included a news release from the University of Nebraska System. Schnoor was born in Norfolk, Neb., and raised in Pierce. He’s a former longtime Nebraska Kearney faculty member and administrator.

Country musician Ian Munsick will be the headliner on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Brown County Fair. Munsick is a singer-songwriter from Sheridan, Wyo., who has released a self-titled EP and two studio albums.

An agricultural business program is seemingly in the works for Northern State University. NSU has asked the South Dakota Board of Regents to authorize a bachelor’s degree in ag business that would “apply the fundamentals of business to agriculture and related industries,” according to the agenda packet for the regents next meeting. It’s set for Wednesday, Dec. 11 and Thursday, Dec. 12 at Black Hills State University in Spearfish.

A trial date has been set in a legal dispute between Summit Carbon Solutions and landowners opposed to the company’s proposed carbon capture pipeline. During a hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Brown County Courthouse, Judge Richard Sommers scheduled trial for the week of Sept. 8, 2025. Thirty or so residents attended the hearing, all seemingly pipeline opponents.
