Drivers on Interstate 70 on Vail Pass should expect delays due to ongoing construction on the west side of the pass from the East Vail Interchange to the Vail Pass Rest Area at the summit beginning April 28, said the Colorado Department of Transportation in a news release. In early May, traffic will be shifted onto temporary pavement in a two-lane, barrier-separated, head-to-head configuration in the current westbound lanes.

The Colorado Energy Office announced $14.4 million in new funding awards this month to further support geothermal heating projects across Colorado. The grants promote Gov. Jared Polis’ “Heat Beneath Our Feet” program to exploit geothermal energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The program began with $12 million in grants authorized by the General Assembly in 2022 by House Bill 22-1381.

Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction has used a campus-wide ground-source heat pump system for 18 years, saving the school more than $15.9 million in heating and cooling costs since 2008 for its 1.2 million square foot campus. According to the U.S. Department of Energy Geothermal Technologies Office, the university’s extensive geothermal network is one of the largest geothermal heat pump systems in North America, with more than 2.5 miles of pipe in its central loop.
