Belgrade man identified as inmate who collapsed at jail, later died at hospital

A man who reportedly collapsed at the Gallatin County jail before being taken to the hospital where he later died has been identified as Thomas Linville, 66, of Belgrade. The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office obtained the assistance of Park County Coroner Al Jenkins to determine cause of death. Jenkins told Belgrade News that Linville died of natural causes.

The state senator representing Belgrade helped pass a bill Monday to prohibit local governments from enacting red flag gun laws. Sen. Shelley Vance (R-SD 34) was among the 29 senators who voted for the bill, HB 809, on final reading Monday in the Montana Senate. No Democrats voted for the bill and only two Republicans voted against it: Sen. Wendy McKamey and Sen. Russ Tempel.

Lawmakers in both houses of the Montana Legislature representing Belgrade helped defeat a bill that proposed to set aside $2 million annually in railroad car tax revenue to help develop passenger rail service in Montana. The bill, HB 848, failed in the Senate on Tuesday, and unless a motion to reconsider the bill carried Wednesday and the bill passes another reading, it's dead. Report: Belgrade woman arrested for drug possession

A 38-year-old Belgrade resident was jailed April 9 on suspicion of possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine. The resident, Jane Elizabeth Duncan, was arrested following an investigation that began about 6:15 p.m. April 9 when a Belgrade police officer reportedly saw a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe he suspected was being driven by a woman with an arrest warrant. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, allegedly Duncan.
