    1. IntroductionSoil erosion in tropical countries is triggered due to geologically weathered soils, intensive rainfall, inappropriate soil and land management practices, and mining activities. Where mining activities cause disturbance in catchment stream ecosystems, they are impacted by heavy loads of eroded material entering the streams [1], if not managed correctly.

    1. IntroductionMinescapes are landscapes generated by mining activity, and most of the research and literature on the subject has focused on geomorphologically based assessments of mining-affected catchments. Mining operations cause a significant environmental disturbance, and if not managed appropriately, may have detrimental impacts in the future. They may potentially disturb large areas of the land surface well beyond the area directly affected.
