Tom Brockett, one of the most successful high school football coaches in Connecticut history, announced his resignation Thursday, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable, 19-year run at the small Naugatuck Valley school. Winner of 215 games against just eight losses over 18 seasons, Brockett retires as the most efficient winner in state history with a .922 career winning percentage, which is also the third-highest in the history of high school football in the United States.

Staples has elevated longtime assistant Matty Jacowleff as its next football coach, the school announced Wednesday afternoon on social media. Jacowleff is a 2015 Staples graduate and served as defensive coordinator under former coach Adam Behrends, who resigned in February to take a college coaching job at University of New Mexico.

Earlier today in a very emotional adresss to the team, Tom Brockett announced that he is retiring as head coach of the Ansonia High School football team. Tom was an assistant coach from 2000 to 2005 and then became head coach in 2006, following Jack Hunt. #cthsfb
