    A NSW-based company running a petrol station in Carlton has been fined $5928 for failing to show it was obeying an environmental notice from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Victoria. The notice followed an inspection by EPA officers who found problems with contaminated soil, groundwater and escaping fuel vapour at the site on the corner of Nicholson St and Alexandra Pde.

    South Melbourne police officers are a step closer to having a new state-of-the-art station with construction now under way. Minister for Police Anthony Carbines joined Member for Albert Park Nina Taylor on April 4 to turn the first sod at the new $53 million Dorcas St location. Construction company McCorkell Constructions has been appointed as the head contractor for the build.

    The City of Melbourne will revise its designs as well as its approach to community consultation for a proposal to expand the Miles and Dodds Reserve in Southbank after receiving a disappointing response to its first effort. Councillors unanimously voted in favour of an amended motion at the March 18 Future Melbourne Committee meeting calling on the council’s management to go back to the drawing board, despite a recommendation not to proceed with the expansion.

    Infrastructure Victoria has called for the state government to start building tram routes to Fishermans Bend by 2030, while urging it to “start preparing now” for the Melbourne Metro 2 train project. The state’s independent infrastructure advisory body released “Victoria’s draft 30-year infrastructure strategy 2025-2055” last month for community consultation, which remains open until April 28 via Engage Victoria.
