News BOTH Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge and MP for Diego Martin North East Colm Imbert offered apologies to the House of Representatives on June 18 after the Government and Opposition raised separate motions of privileges against the two MPs.In the case of the former finance minister, Imbert apologised for his remarks on June 13 where he insisted that a lawsuit against him was still under appeal and as such was sub judice and should not be publicly discussed by La Brea MP Clyde Elder.

News Former attorney general Anand Ramlogan, in a statement on June 18, welcomed the laying of the report into the NiQuan explosion in 2023 which claimed the life of a worker, in the House of Representatives. "It is a travesty of justice that the PNM administration chose to hide it and a young widow had to sue in order to get it after several public statements that it will be disclosed upon completion of the investigation," Ramlogan said in a media statement.

News THERE was rancour in the House of Representatives on June 18, while Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal laid the report of the deadly NiQuan explosion which claimed the life of a worker at that plant two years ago. He slammed the former PNM government for being insensitive and lacking compassion in withholding the report on the explosion which caused the death of Allenlane Ramkissoon, 35, following the explosion at the Pointe-a-Pierre plant on June 15, 2023.

News FINANCE Minister Davendranath Tancoo estimated the deficit in the last budget as $9.67 billion, speaking in the Mid Year Review debate in the House of Representatives on June 18. He said while the former PNM administration had predicated its budget on oil at US77.80 per barrel and gas at US$3.59 per mmbtu, the UNC government's latest estimate was respectively just US$66.00 and US$5.00. These adjustments would reduce expected revenues by $556 million, he said.
