Another summer of civilised shows in the Nottinghamshire woodlands kicked off with an astoundingly musical Friday night with Nile Rodgers and Chic. It was part of the Forest Live, which is a major series of shows held in the nation's forest at various sites including at Sherwood Pines, near King's Clipstone. First up were “intriguing viral pop act” Deco, who seemed very nice for a sunny afternoon.

Languorous anthem jockeys Elbow ended their UK tour with an exultant Nottingham gig. It had been a trying week. The night before they rolled up at the Motorpoint Arena, they were the first band to play a proper gig at Manchester’s new Co-op Live Arena – a venue whose farcical launch has already made it an international laughing stock. Elbow were originally the 15th gig on the list but, as all the earlier ones were called off due to the building not being ready, they ended up first.

Nottingham actress Samantha Morton is returning to Nottingham – as a singer. She will be at the city’s Rough Trade record shop at 7pm on Friday, June 14, to sing and sign copies of debut album Daffodils And Dirt. The record – by Sam Morton, described as a musical duo comprising Samantha and producer/songwriter Richard Russell, founder of XL Records – was created after Richard heard Samantha on Desert Island Discs in 2020.

Paul Weller will play a Nottingham show in October. The former leader of The Jam and The Style Council has been a solo performer since 1992. He will start a sell-out 15-date UK tour next month – but Paul Weller's Nottingham gig will be part of a longer outing spanning October and November. The show – at the Royal Concert Hall – is on Monday, October 21.
