The Cubs and Diamondbacks renewed hostilities on Saturday one day after a crazy afternoon that saw 21 runs scored in two innings. Corbin Carroll greeted Ben Brown rather rudely to begin the game Saturday, popping a solo home run that gave Arizona a 1-0 lead. The North Siders bounced back immediately against Zac Gallen in the bottom of the frame, beginning with an RBI triple from Kyle Tucker.

The Cubs tried to get back on the winning track against the Padres Tuesday after a bullpen meltdown cost them a victory on Monday night. It was a low-scoring affair, but Chicago scratched out a run in the 10th inning to earn an extra-innings win. Opposing starters Shōta Imanaga and Randy Vásquez pitched around multiple early jams to keep the game scoreless into the 5th inning.
