UCF fell 2-1 to James Madison in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference playoffs Sunday at the Hoops Family Field. UCF was offensively dominant throughout the game and had eight more shots than the Dukes, but was unable to pull away with a win that would have extended its season and given the Knights a chance to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

College soccer has a major scheduling problem. As of now, soccer is only played during the fall semester and players and coaches must pack the entire regular season into just three months. Between Aug. 10 and Nov. 5, the UCF men’s soccer team wasscheduled to play a total of 17 preseason and regular season games, averaging one game every five days. The women’s team faced an even tougher task and was scheduled to play on average every four and half days between Aug. 5 and Oct. 25.

Freshman forward Carlos Rojas is one of the most physically imposing strikers UCF is likely to ever come across. Rojas said he has always been bigger than other kids his age. At 18 years old he said he stood at 6 feet 7 inches, which is eight and a half inches taller than the average MLS forward as of October 2023. Rojas' size advantage didn't always mean that he had it easy playing against other kids growing up, he said.

Fifth-year forward Lucca Dourado'slate-game winner against Coastal Carolina on Tuesday allowed the Knights to leapfrog James Madison and South Carolina in the Sun Belt Conference standings. UCF finished in third place and will face No. 6 James Madison in the first round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hoops Family Field in Huntington, West Virginia.

A last-minute game-winning goal from fifth-year forward Lucca Dourado propelled UCF men’s soccer to a 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina Tuesday at CCU Soccer Stadium. The Knights final game of the regular season marked a special occasion for fifth-year defender Anderson Rosa as he made his 75th appearance, the most in UCF history. Rosa celebrated his milestone in style as he helped UCF to open the scoring in the 17th minute by assisting redshirt sophomore midfielder Joey Mueller.
