Critics of the expansion say it devalues the qualification process. Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin described the proposal as a "bad idea" earlier this month. Grand National runner Celebre D'Allen died from a "severe bacterial respiratory infection" that developed after the race, a post-mortem has determined. However, the post-mortem acknowledged the horse's immune system was "severely compromised" after the "exercise-associated episode" during Saturday's race. The 13-year-old did not finish at Aintree, having been pulled up after the final fence before collapsing on the track.

Grand National runner Celebre d'Allen has died following Saturday's race at Aintree. The 13-year-old horse, the oldest of the 34 runners, was pulled up after the final fence and collapsed on the track. Following treatment on the course, the gelding was walked into the horse ambulance and taken to the racecourse stables for further assessment. But after initially showing signs of recovery, his condition "deteriorated significantly" and he died on Tuesday.
