Summer continues to peak this upcoming weak, as high temps in the 80s with humidity and an occasional thunderstorm will be the norm. Monday's storm chances look diminished thanks to action ongoing elsewhere. While a storm could popup in the afternoon, chances are low. Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies in the morning fading into some sunshine this afternoon with feels like temps at 90 degrees.

After a few showers in mid July, the month is set to end with no shortage of sunshine. High pressure will clear the skies away for most of the rest of July, with near totally sunny skies from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday. Heat and humidity will gradually be on the rise through this time, so get outside Wednesday or Thursday if you are not a fan of summer heat.

Tuesday brings a mix of smoke and a few raindrops which could impact your plans if you are getting outside. A cluster of thunderstorms in western Minnesota is moving southeast towards the MN-IA border as of 8am Tuesday. While these storms are expected to weaken, a few spotty showers are possible in southeast Minnesota after 1pm. Have a rain jacket handy just in case, but otherwise skies should be mostly unproblematic at this time. High temps this afternoon in the upper 70s, flirting with 80 degrees.

Thursday and Friday are shaping up to be the best days this week to get outside. High temps in the low-mid 80s with a light breeze and sunny skies will make for two back-to-back quintessential July days. More heat and humidity moves in this weekend, with high temps near or at 90 degrees. Alongside plenty of extra humidity, and it could feel like nearly 100 degrees Sunday.

After a rainy Monday night and Tuesday morning, more is on the way. Anywhere from 0.5"-2.5" fell overnight across the region, with higher totals falling close to and along the MN-IA border. This same plume of moisture will now continue to swell back into the region Tuesday afternoon, this time coming with another 1-3" for some folks. Rain and thunderstorms begin around 2pm in north Iowa and move north into Southern Minnesota soon after. Showers peter out between 8-11pm.

After a tumultuous extended weekend of rain and storms, another round is possible late Monday. Temps are set to rise into the mid 80s Monday with plenty of humidity. In central Minnesota, as a low pressure center nears, this more turbulent environment, combined with these warm and humid conditions, could combine to produce severe to extreme storms this evening, which would then travel southeast through portions of southeast Minnesota and maybe even northeast Iowa.

There is a substantial risk for flooding & flash floods Friday through Saturday as heavy and training rain showers and thunderstorms are expected. Between Friday and Saturday afternoon anywhere from 2-5" of rain is expected widespread across the area, with a few pockets of 5-8" possible for some isolated areas. A stalled warm front will provide the focus for several waves of thunderstorms similar to what rolled through Friday morning, but perhaps even stronger.

This week, the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge is celebrating its centennial - 100 years of public protection and enjoyment. The refugee begins in Wabasha, Minnesota, and spans just over 260 miles down the entire river Mississippi river, past places like Winona, La Crosse, and ending near Davenport, Iowa. All along and in between, the refuge conserves more than 240,000 acres of rivers, streams, bluffsides, and the largest flood plain forest in the nation.
