We spoke to Ned in the company of his wife Anna, in their lovely sitting room with a roaring fire in Mullinavat village in recent times. Born 90 years ago, Edward ‘Ned’ Delahunty was one of eight children born in Ballinakill, a small townland near the famous South Kilkenny landmark of Tory Hill in the Mullinavat parish. A farmer’s son, his parents, John and Catherine, farmed 160 acres in different parts of the parish and also in Templeroum parish.

Laois man Damien Dollard has been honoured with the Volunteer Manager of the Year award at the national Volunteer Ireland Awards. The awards, which took place in Dublin on Sunday December 8, celebrate Ireland’s outstanding volunteers and volunteer managers. The Portlaoise man began volunteering with the Civil Defence since 2012 before joining the staff as Civil Defence Officer. He has been a mentor, a friend and a support to many volunteers.

The Laois GAA County Convention takes place this evening in the Midlands Park Hotel. At this Convention, clubs have the right to propose motions to the County Board. The first club to propose motions is Stradbally, who have proposed two motions. The first motion is that the number of players that teams have to submit for their first and subsequent teams (by Feb 28) should be reduced to 13 players.
