Last week was Spirit Week across our spring social sports leagues, and teams brought the heat with their most creative takes on this season’s theme: Spring Break! From beach vibes to tropical tourists, players showed up in full costume and the team spirit was stronger than ever. We loved seeing everyone’s creativity on display! Great to be back again with your weekly hit from around the grounds. It's been an injury enforced lay-off the last fortnight - a heavy, heavy hit of man flu coupled with a poorly timed gout flare-up brought me undone. I'm told by my family that it's "too bad," both are entirely self-inflicted and I've got to get on with it. Here we go then. There's been plenty playing out in rugby across the globe.

Parenting and music are perceived as cultural opposites. Raising kids and playing music happen on opposite schedules with opposite intentions — the economics of raising a family and creating music for public consumption are at odds. It’s the stuff of Harry Chapin songs and Twisted Sister songs. The party is over once that first poopy diaper hits the bin. The needs of the music industry are very different from the needs of a family.

The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University brings its Peabody Performance Series to the Bloomberg Center in downtown Washington, D.C. Presenting free public performances by the Conservatory’s esteemed faculty, alumni, students, and special guests, the spring season features orchestral, jazz, chamber, and dance programs, with highlights including New York-based ensemble Loadbang on April 30. Daytime and evening events include concerts, multi-day festivals, and symposia.
