Carlos Locklyn knew TreVeyon Henderson long before the former became the Ohio State Buckeyes running backs coach. Locklyn remembers FaceTime calls and sitting at Henderson’s kitchen table. That was when Locklyn was the director of high school recruiting at Florida State, hoping the Seminoles would stand out among the 39 offers the Patriots draftee received. Locklyn didn’t get to work with Henderson right out of high school.

Will Campbell has a leg up on other draftees. Campbell, the first-round selection of the New England Patriots, has been able to pick the brain of NFL legend Andrew Whitworth for years. It was a “huge honor,” Campbell said on draft night. Lucas Giolito will make his second start of the season when the Boston Red Sox welcome the Texas Rangers to Fenway Park on Tuesday night. Boston has lost four of its last five games while Texas dropped consecutive series to the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics. Giolito takes the mound after he threw six innings in his season debut against the Blue Jays. The veteran right-hander limited Toronto to three runs on five hits in his first game.

Kyle Williams didn’t receive the same pre-draft buzz as other receivers, but those around the NFL clearly are high on the Patriots draftee. “A lot of people around the NFL liked the Patriots landing Washington State WR Kyle Williams in the third round,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote Monday. “One interesting comp I got for him: Tyler Lockett.”Breer’s sentiments are similar to reporting from the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed, who spoke to executives who praised New England.
