Lawmakers in another blue state are pushing for Gender X birth certificates. Maryland Democrats are backing the Birth Certificate Modernization Act to add the non-binary “X” option on birth certificates for those who identify as something other than male or female. The measure also keep birth certificate amendment histories private. “This bill will ensure that people can obtain documentation that matches who they are,” state Sen. Clarence Lam, D-Columbia,told Maryland Matters.

With a new governor in office, Democrats in Delaware’s state Legislature are launching another push to legalize physician-assisted suicide. State Rep. Eric Morrison is leading 19 Democrats in sponsoring House Bill 140, which would make Delaware the 11th state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. The controversial measure passed Delaware’s House 21-16 and the Senate 11-10 last year, but the Democratic Legislature lacked the votes to override then-Democratic Gov. John Carney’s veto.

Schools are failing and help’s available, but few know about it. That’s apparently what’s happening in Pennsylvania to tens of thousands of students trapped in low-achieving schools. Schools in the Keystone state that score in the bottom 15% on annual math and reading tests are classified as low-achieving. Of 382 such schools across the state, 255 have had that designation for the last six years, according to the Commonwealth Foundation, a Harrisburg think-tank.
