    Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed legislation this week aimed at giving more protections to victims of domestic abuse, stalking, and sexual assault. The new law requires carmakers to disable remote access technology, such as tracking and control features, within two days of receiving a certified protective or restraining order. In doing so, Louisiana becomes the first state in the country to hold car manufacturers legally liable in court for failing to comply with protective orders.

And that is leaving key offices understaffed in cities like Lake Charles, Houston, and Tampa. That’s the word from LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim.     For the first time in five years, Louisiana has more jobs than it did before the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s according to a report from the nonpartisan think tank Leaders for a Better Louisiana. The report shows that overall, jobs are up 1.1% over the last year and more than 2% over the last two years. Chief Executive Officer Adam Knapp says the state now has 4,100 more jobs than it did in February of 2020.

    Currently, Louisiana law dictates that a driver must be travelling at least 10 miles below the posted speed limit on a highway to be ticketed. Senate Bill 11 removes that 10 mph parameter, which means someone technically driving the speed limit, but obstructing the flow of traffic by driving in the left lane, may be cited. As the reports, SB-11 has now advanced from the Louisiana State Senate Transportation Committee in this first week of the 2025 Regular Legislative Session in Baton Rouge.
