I was disheartened to learn about the tone of last week’s Wenatchee meeting on grizzly bear reintroduction in the North Cascades. These mountains and animals are close to my heart. Having spent a good part of my career with the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service, I’ve worked with both grizzly and black bears across the West, including in Yellowstone and the North Cascades. Grizzlies are majestic and powerful creatures that once roamed widely across Washington.

Boston College will host the Boston-area premiere of the documentary film “Stolen,” which features the stories of survivors of Ireland’s notorious mother-and-baby homes, on October 9 at 4:30 p.m. in Devlin 110. The free, public event also will include a Q&A with the film’s director, Margo Harkin. Released in 2023, “Stolen” offers insights into a decades-old scandal during which more than 80,000 unmarried mothers were incarcerated in institutions run by nuns.
