WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Wisconsin DNR is looking for landowners to host hunters with disabilities for the Gun Deer Hunt For Hunters With Disabilities, which will take place Oct. 4-12. To be part of the Gun Deer Hunt For Hunters With Disabilities program, landowners must have at least 60 acres available, be able to host at least three hunters and complete an online application by July 1. The DNR asks interested landowners to fill in all the property information fields on the application.

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has reported that as of June 2025, there are three reported cases of Powassan virus (POWV) disease in Wisconsin adults. All three individuals were hospitalized, and one died from the infection. Powassan virus is transmitted to people through an infected blacklegged (deer) tick. Initial symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, and generalized weakness.

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Wausau School District has provided an update on its consolidation efforts following the closures of three of its elementary schools this year. As of Monday, June 23, staff members at Hawthorn Hills, Hewitt-Texas, Grant, and Lincoln have now packed up their spaces to prepare for the moving process. The moving process has now started and will likely go on throughout the summer break.

ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAW) - Riverside Fire District says nobody was injured in a structure fire at the Domtar Biomass plant in Rothschild on June 19. Crews responded to the plant at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday for a fire with smoke and flames showing at the plant. As crews worked to suppress and extinguish the fire, numerous hot spots were found. The fire was under control and the last units cleared the scene just after 3 a.m. on June 20.
