    Landlords can install security cameras in common areas, like hallways, lobbies, elevators, and laundry rooms. However, the cameras must not be pointed toward a tenant’s front door or windows, as that would violate their privacy per the expectation of privacy law mentioned above. Landlords cannot install security cameras inside the tenant’s home, as doing so would also violate their expectation of privacy. Only 15 U.S. states have specific laws about security cameras.
