Last month, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) hosted its 39th annual Collectors Committee fundraiser, a weekend for donors to gather for art, food and wine, and for Committee members to vote on which artworks will join the museum’s permanent collection. This year, together with acquisitions by Virginia Vezzi, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Max Beckmann, Chiura Obata, Tokio Ueyama and Miné Okubo, LACMA acquired two pieces by Manuel de Arellano.

“We were expecting a blender,” said Steven Seagle and laughed, as he looked around at the “home kit” he received with his wife, Liesel Reinhart, and their children. The Reinhart-Seagle family were pleasantly surprised with their new dining and living room, and lots of other essentials, all set up by volunteers. They are parents to three foster children and have lived in Altadena, just north of Christmas Tree Lane, for 20 years.

Although 80% of Latinx adults in the US are likely to play video games versus 62% of Whites, Latinos only account for 8.1% of video game developers compared to 70% of their white counterparts, according to the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC). On September 12, Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX), along with the NHMC and various national Latine organizations, announced the formation of the Latino Representation in Gaming Coalition (LRGC) at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
