The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that Italian authorities had not acted illegally in a complex case dating back to November 06, 2017, when the MRCC had tasked the Libyan coast guard with rescuing migrants shipwrecked at sea and then take them back to Libyan soil. The case in question involved the rescue of 150 people from a rubber dinghy, which had left Libya a few days earlier.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) of the Netherlands announced that asylum decisions will now be made on almost 17,000 outstanding as well as new asylum applications lodged by Syrian nationals seeking asylum. However, this comes after the government had downgraded the risk assessment level for Syria, saying that the danger of people facing persecution and arbitrary violence in Syria is now at the lowest level according to EU assessment guidelines.

A comprehensive online survey conducted by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg, Germany found that 26 percent of migrant respondents to a survey aged between 18 and 65 were considering emigrating again. Two-thirds of those participants were under the age of 40, representing the high rate of younger immigrants to Germany.

A group of Dutch citizens were seen conducting their own border checks near the northern town of Ter Apel in the municipality of Westerworde Saturday (June 7), according to reports on the Dutch local broadcaster RTV Noord. The citizens involved had apparently been stopping vehicles and looking for potential asylum seekers entering the country. After the initial action on Saturday, locals tried to repeat the same checks on Sunday, which however was thwarted by authorities.
