    Two staff members of the Israeli Embassy were victims of a Jew-hating killer in Washington, D.C., May 21, in the wake of a flurry of false reports of a deadly famine in Gaza and blood libels that Israeli forces are deliberately targeting children there, widely repeated in the bourgeois news media. Sarah Lynn Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky were shot multiple times by Elias Rodriguez after leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum.

    Thousands of truck drivers — mostly owner-operators — joined a one-week strike that began May 22 and shut down cargo depots and more in 130 cities across Iran. Above, strikers in Gilanegharb May 26. The strike was called in the wake of the April 26 explosion at the port in Bandar Abbas. Many of the 70 workers killed and more than 1,000 wounded were truck drivers.

    Bakery owners and workers in at least nine cities in Iran protested May 17 and 18 over rising costs, delays in government payments of subsidies aimed at keeping bread prices low, and frequent power outages that ruin production. Bread is a key staple in the Iranian diet. “Last year the government told bakers not to charge people for 40% of the bread price,” one baker told the press. In return, the government was supposed to deposit that amount in the bakeries’ accounts.
