A deadly Thursday crash involving the Boilermaker Special was caused by a "tire malfunction," the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday in a press release. The crash occurred in Lafayette at about 3:40 p.m. when the Special crossed the median of U.S. 52 and collided with an oncoming car, police say. The driver of the car died at the scene, while the Special's two drivers were transported to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The Boilermaker Special was involved in a crash Thursday afternoon that has reportedly resulted in the death of one person, police on the scene said. It occured near the intersection of U.S. 52 and Wyandotte Road in Lafayette. Photos posted on Facebook by witnesses show the Special crumpled near the side of the road after police say it crashed into a car. The identity of the victim is still unknown.

A federal judge has ruled that five international Purdue students, who are suing the federal government over the revocations of their student visas, can be detained by immigration officers, even while their lawsuit is still underway, according to a court order filed Thursday. U.S. District Judge James Hanlon is allowing federal authorities to uphold the termination of the students' visas, arguing that "'some possibility' of deportation is not enough" to warrant protecting them from detainment.

The Indiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit against Gov. Mike Braun over a flurry of executive orders he signed last month aiming to restrict what he calls "extreme gender ideology."Filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana on March 28, the ACLU's lawsuit hones in on Executive Order 25-36, which denies the ability of transgender individuals to update their gender identity on their birth certificates.
