The competition in SPJ's Region 8 draws entries from college news organizations in Oklahoma and Texas.

OU Student Media has received, timed to the University of Oklahoma’s upcoming annual Giving Day, a $100,000 pledge to the OU Daily from an anonymous donor to honor a longtime Muskogee, Norman and Edmond resident. The Becky Willis Memorial Fund for News Leadership pays forward the values embodied by the late spouse of former Daily adviser Jack Willis. Born and raised in Muskogee, Becky rose through several financial institutions to become a vice president.

OU Daily earned a Silver Crown for overall excellence in the college hybrid news category in results announced Friday by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York. The distinction marks the ninth consecutive year the Daily has earned a gold or silver crown, the highest honors given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Just two other college newsrooms — the Indiana Daily Student and The Ithacan — have equaled that streak.
