JOHANNESBURG, April 7 (Reuters) - The South African rand slumped to its weakest in well over a year on Monday and local stocks extended their recent slide as global recession fears mounted over U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs. At 0815 GMT, the rand traded at 19.4025 against the dollar , down 1.5% on Friday's closing level after earlier touching its weakest since October 2023.

JOHANNESBURG, April 4 (Reuters) - The rand fell further on Friday as investors worried about the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs and the future of South Africa's coalition government. At 0840 GMT, the rand traded at 19.1225 against the dollar , down about 2% on Thursday's closing level and its weakest since mid-January. The South African currency has fallen more than 3% against the dollar this week, with bigger losses against currencies like the euro and pound.

JOHANNESBURG, March 27 (Reuters) - South Africa's rand weakened on Thursday as markets fretted over U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs due next week. At 1407 GMT, the rand traded at 18.3375 against the U.S. dollar , about 0.4% weaker than its previous close. The dollar was last down about 0.3% against a basket of currencies. Trump on Wednesday announced 25% tariffs on all vehicles and foreign-made auto parts imported into the U.S. to go into effect after midnight on April 3.
