Diesel consumption, on the other hand, grew 1.89 percent in May year-on-year, settling at 8,571 TMT. In India, diesel is primarily consumed in the transport sector (including trucks, buses, railways and commercial vehicles), and in agriculture. An increase in diesel consumption is directly linked to the growth of the economy. The fuel also claims over 40 percent share in India’s basket of refined petroleum products.

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL), the country’s largest coal miner, witnessed a significant drop in coal offtake during May 2025 and the April-May period, even as India’s power demand surged due to rising summer temperatures. The fall in coal dispatches from CIL — which supplies over 80 percent of the fuel used by the country’s thermal power plants — comes at a critical time when electricity consumption is typically at its seasonal peak.

EIL, which provides engineering consultancy and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, had, until now, almost 90 percent of its business coming in from the oil and gas and petrochemical sectors. However, at the end of FY25, the share of non-oil and gas segments in EIL’s order book has increased to around 45 percent, with oil and gas comprising the remaining 55 percent, said the CMD.

For the full financial year 2024–25, EIL’s standalone revenue from operations declined 6.3 percent YoY to Rs 3,02,835 lakh, primarily due to a 24.1 percent drop in revenue from turnkey projects, which fell from Rs 1,77,788 lakh in FY24 to Rs 1,34,959 lakh in FY25. In contrast, Consultancy and Engineering Projects revenue grew 15.4 percent YoY to Rs 1,67,876 lakh, offsetting part of the contraction.
